Happiness is Enjoying the Little Things in Life | Little Things that Matter | Delightful Chronicles
How to enjoy the little things | When you appreciate the little things in life | Remember to Enjoy the Little Things
In the rush of our daily lives, it's all too easy to become consumed by the pursuit of grand ambitions, tangible achievements, and significant milestones. We often place an overwhelming emphasis on what lies in the future, on the big picture, and sometimes, in doing so, we inadvertently let the little moments slip through our fingers. However, the true essence of life often resides in the little things, these small, seemingly inconsequential moments. It's the gentle caress of a cool breeze on a warm summer day, or when your sister brings something to eat while you are busy doing work but feeling hungry, or the light of a cute little fairy light which illuminates the whole room with its warmth, or the relief you get after giving a good presentation in a meeting, or the happiness you get when the time comes of which you were waiting from so long, or the laughter of a child, or the comforting aroma of a home-cooked meal by your mother or wife, or when you see their twinkling eyes when they are telling you about their wishes and favorite things, or the excitement you get when you see your favorite most wanted article on sale and you were eagerly waiting to have that, or the joy of a good book on a rainy afternoon. These little things, often taken for granted, are the threads that weave the fabric of our daily existence, imbuing it with color, texture, and depth. They offer moments of respite, allowing us to escape the whirlwind of our ambitions and reminding us to cherish the present. Embracing the little things is an art, a practice of mindfulness that invites us to be fully present in the moment and discover joy in the simplicity of life. It's a gentle reminder that happiness can be found not only in the grandiose and extraordinary but also in the ordinary and unassuming moments that surround us each day. By learning to savor these little things, we can find contentment and a profound sense of fulfillment in the simplicity of life, transforming the mundane into the extraordinary.
It’s the little things that matter!
Small gestures of kindness can mean a lot to others and have a significant impact on their well-being and happiness. In this blog post on Delightful Chronicles you'll learn what does enjoying the little things mean and how some simple yet meaningful things you can do for others:
- Smile:
A warm smile can brighten someone's day and create a positive connection. While you are walking through the corridor or waiting for the signals to turn green, you pass a smile to a stranger, you made their day! Maybe, they were going through tough times and your warm smile relieved their stress. Even for the short period but your little smile made a huge change to their mood, and maybe they got a chance to think about the things again with a relax mind. Even though it was a small gesture for you but it was life changing thing to someone else and they will never forget your smile their whole life!
- Listen:
Give your full attention when someone is speaking to you. It shows that you value their thoughts and feelings. Sometimes, someone is really in need of a listening ear, and they want to pour their whole heart out to someone. Sometimes, someone is just super excited to share their ideas with someone and there you are for them. Sometimes, someone is just confused in things and they want someone to listen to them and help them out. Maybe, it could be a small thing to you, listening to them carefully but it can be a huge thing to them. You will forget what someone told you after some time, or you can even forget that you talked to them, later, but for them it could be a lot meaningful thing and they will always keep you in their memories about that specific moment when you heard them carefully.
- Offer a helping hand:
Assist someone with their groceries, hold the door open, or help carry a heavy load. Small acts of assistance can be greatly appreciated. When you are going somewhere and you see an elder person taking the things to home which is causing them some trouble. You go ahead and help them in getting to the home, you’ll get prayers from them in return.
Or, when someone starts a new job at your place, being a newbie there, they have no idea about the things, then you get ahead and help them in the things they have no idea about. It could be just a little thing to you but it made you secure a corner in their heart by your good deeds and your helping hand made them doing the things they were hesitant to do.
Let me tell you my true story! When I started my teaching job. It was my first job and I was not familiar with the things, neither I had any other job experience. I am always a hesitant person, even if I know the things I always get confused. And teaching the juniors!! it was also the icing on the cake for me haha. But luckily! I got a nice fellow there, who was my co-teacher of the other section. She lent a helping hand to me, in EVERY thing. From the start of the day to our off timing she was always there for me. Either it was a matter of something official or nonofficial, I always got her beside me. She was also active and quick than me hehe, and she was their old employee. She always gave me her shoulder to lean on. Even if sometimes, in my free timing, I was sitting alone, she saw me, the next moment I could find her beside me. She was a very gooood friend and a good guide also. Maybe, she will forget me, but I will never forget her. Because in very short time she secured a place in my heart. A good listener and a good mentor, indeed she was!
She helped me in making results of my classIt’s no big thing, but you make big things out of little things sometimes!
- Send a thoughtful message:
A kind text, email, or handwritten note to check in on someone or express appreciation can make a difference.
When you hear that someone is not well or not having good times. Your one kind message can change their whole mood. And can cheer them up. Even if you have no time, you can spare a second and write a text message to them. And that can make a lot of change in their condition.
- Compliment:
Offer sincere compliments to acknowledge someone's efforts or qualities. Give compliments. Whenever you feel. Whenever you want. Never hesitate to do so. Don’t feel shy. Whenever you like someone’s outfit, someone’s fine art, someone’s choice in choosing the things, or loved someone’s cooked meal, just tell them that they did well! It will make their day more better and their eyes will shine with the happiness. If someone tried doing something for the first time, even if they were not that good as you were expecting, your single compliment of appreciation can boost up and they will do much better next time. I repeat, NEVER STOP YOURSELF FROM GIVING COMPLIMENTS! Because this could mean a little thing to you or for the others present there at the moment, but to them it’s a whole thing that they succeed in doing their thing!
- Donate your time:
Volunteer for a cause or organization that matters to you. Your time and skills can have a positive impact. Sometimes, you are an expert in something and the other person has no idea that how to do the things. You can go and help them out. You can teach them something from your skills and it can be a life changing experience for them. Now, here at our home, I know how to do makeup and apply henna, but my younger sisters are not so good at it. I help them in things when they need me. Sometimes, I myself do their makeup and it makes me more happier than them.
- Surprise treats:
Bring a colleague or friend their favorite snack, coffee, or a small gift just because. Giving treats is a cute thing. Because, who doesn’t love the treats and surprises hehe! even if they are small, doesn’t matter. Surprise them with the little cute things that you can do.
When I’m going out and see something special, I take it for myself and also for my siblings. This makes me happy a lot and them also. When Papa goes outside, he brings our favorite dry fruits. He brings what we were wanting to have. And whenever he brings jalebi yesss!!! than that’s the real treat for us haha! And seeing us happy he get more happier! ❤️
Let me tell you another cutest chronicle of mine. I really wanted to write that here! Because it really makes my heart warm whenever I think of it!
Fairy lights – my cute little comfort zone 🌸
It’s about five years back, when there was only one light at our home, in our girls’ room. Back then, no one used to turn that light on, but I used to lovvve it! and every night or every time whenever I was in good mood, I used to lit it. I don’t know why, but this light gives me peace and warmth to my heart. And everyone could see the happiness on my face it gives me. So, everyone started saying it talking to me, *your favorite light* hehe and I love hearing that. Papa has different night and day shifts at work, so at first he was not familiar with that. But as time was passing others also starting loving this light. Whenever I wanted to capture my pictures or in mood I turn the light on and do my things. In whatever color I got it I always loved it. Once, I was outside the room, I came inside and Papa turned on the fairy light and said that, “I know this is your favorite light” Awww that moment! ❤️❤️❤️ I got so much happy and said that, you also know that!!! After that Papa never let our room be without that light. If sometimes the light get damaged or out of order, he instantly gets us a new one and says to me, take it and hang in your room. Little things have always meant a lot to me and if someone else does a thing for me, my eyes twinkle with happiness!
Never underestimate the significance of the little things done out of a large heart of love!
I love to do little things for him and for others also. This year at Papa’s birthday, I used to be busy at the day time at my job, and after job I used to sleep and relax myself. When it was Papa’s birthday, I decided to make a handmade card for him, because I knew it will make him so much happy. The whole day I couldn’t get time to make it, and at night I got late and everyone was sleeping, but I wanted to make the card. I share the room with my younger sisters, they were sleeping and asked me to turn off the light, so, I made it in my fairy light but that was also not enough so in addition to it, I turned on my phone flash light and made a birthday surprise card for Papa and put it on his bed side table, so when he’ll wakeup he’ll be happy seeing the card. And yes! It made him so much happy when in the morning he saw the card! Everyone loved it also and I was so much happy by that! I wrote all the things I want to say to him inside! ❤️😭
We can do no great things-only small things with great love!
- Express gratitude:
Say "thank you" genuinely and often. Appreciating others can be very meaningful. When someone does a thing for you never forget to thank them. Thank your parents for everything they have done for you to make you a bigger personality. Express gratitude to them. Do little things for them when they don’t expect a thing from you. Make them tea, or breakfast in bed. Give them a wedding anniversary surprise, it can be a small one but don’t miss any chance! Get them their favorite thing, their favorite clothes or ornaments when they are not expecting that from you, it will make their eyes shine with happiness and their heart will be filled with warmth and joy. Thank your wife with affection when she brings you food while you are busy in your work.
- Support during tough times:
Be there for someone when they're going through a challenging period. Offer emotional support and understanding. When your friend or a relative is facing tough times, always be there for them. Support them, if they need a financial support or moral support try to be there for them even if they don’t ask. Cheer them up, keep their hopes high. Because, that’s much needed in hard times. Maybe in the future you’ll forget that, but they’ll never forget and you’ll make a place in their heart forever!
It’s a tough life, and it’s the little things that get us through the day!
Celebrate their successes:
Share in the joy of their achievements, no matter how small, and acknowledge their hard work. Give them little surprise gifts for their achievement. Make them feel special. Ask all the family members and friends to gather and arrange a success party for them. It’ll make them feel really special and happier.
We at our home, do this thing and celebrate each other’s success and achievements with a party, no matter big or small we never forget to celebrate the moments.
Random acts of kindness:
Pay for someone's meal, leave a friendly note in a public place, or perform an unexpected act of kindness without expecting anything in return. They’ll always think of the moment and smile.
Respect their boundaries:
Recognize when someone needs space or time alone and honor their need for privacy.
These little gestures, when done genuinely and without any ulterior motive, can make a significant difference in the lives of others and foster a sense of connection and compassion in your community and relationships.
Without water drops, there can be no oceans; without steps, there can be no stairs; without little things, there can be no big things!
